Co-founded in 2004 by Nobles Don Cox and Steve Benford, the Omar Cobras of Myrtle Beach are the newest Omar motorized unit and are members of the Omar Motor Corps, SAASA Motor Corps and Imperial Motor Corps.
Joining Don and Steve were Nobles Randall Johnson and Eric "Rooster" Brown, and the four became the Charter Members, building the Unit's first four cars.
Since then, seven more members have joined the Cobras, Nobles Kenny Graham, Kent Sellers, Tray Andrew, Richard "Woody" Woods, Russ Hall, Jim Everman and Jon Harris. They have built two additional cars as well as a lead car, and have added a golf cart to their inventory. The Omar Cobras are a growing Unit!
With the cars built specifically for competition, the Omar Cobras are proud to have won three Imperial Motor Corps and three SAASA Motor Corps trophies. In 2004 they were the recipients of a 2004 Potentates Special Recognition plaque and the coveted Shrine Bowl Service Award. They have also won several 1st and 2nd place parade trophies, as well as a 2005 Potentates trophy, a 2007 Potentates Special Recognition plaque and a second Shrine Bowl Service Award while continuing to entertain the public with their azure-blue, modified AC Shelby replica go-carts as they continue to support the Shrine of North America and their 22 Shrine hospitals.
Recognized for their "sea of blue", wearing their trademark blue Cobra T-Shirts or blue Cobra dress shirts, the Omar Cobras, as well as the Lady Cobras are active in their support of various Omar Shrine events, most particularly the "Smoke on the Beach BBQ".
As schedules permit, the Lady Cobras can be seen at SAASA and Imperial Competition and local and out of town parades, cheerleading and supporting their Cobras!
